The CD sounds like me
Last week, Jeff Lukin and I headed out to a friends cabin to record my first CD. I kind of always knew it would happen in some fashion or another. I think I still have some studio time pre-paid in Brandon from about ten years ago. I guess you could say it’s been a long time coming.
Now that its recorded, wrapped, and for sale, it kind of feels a bit strange. I mean, it just sounds like me. No extras. No guitar leads or keyboards or sweet Bill Western pedal steel rounding out the hard corners my songs sometimes take. So I’m happy with it. The folks at Ironstone were amazing. Their turnaround time was ridiculously short. Recorded Wedenesday, mastered Thursday, in a box for Friday. My buddy Daryl Hiebert from I Like the Ride designed the cover via text messages and had that to the printers at the 11th hour. So I just had to sing and play. Man was I tired! By the time I recorded “Dear John” I couldn’t quite hit at least one of the notes I was reaching for. I plan to re-record that one. I’ll try to make sure everyone who has bought the first run will get a new copy of that song.
Sales are already going well and I’m stoked to get it into as many hands as possible. The production is simple and stripped down so I guess it’s a pretty accurate depiction of what you’ll get if you come to a show(and I think you should come to a show)
I look forward to hearing what other people hear as they listen to my songs. Don’t be shy. I look forward to your comments.
